GO FOR GOLD
OUR MISSION IS TO INSPIRE AND SUSTAIN PASSIONATE FENCERS
Roaring Fork Fencers Club teaches the Olympic sport of fencing from Aspen to Glenwood Springs and beyond. We build a deep love for the sport through an emphasis on fun, connections, and skill. Our program welcomes all ages, abilities, and celebrates a diverse group of fencers.
FENCING: A 21st CENTURY SPORT
Fencing has been in every modern Olympic Games since their inception in 1896, but it remains relevant by combining athleticism and intellect alongside exceptional safety standards and boundless opportunity.
Safety
In a study of the Olympic games, fencing was found to be statistically as safe as swimming or cross-country skiing. It is five times safer than basketball and twelve times safer than soccer with almost no risk of severe injury or concussion.
Opportunity
USA Fencing has robust local, regional, and national competitions for all ages. Fencing also has one of the best scholarship ratios for any NCAA sport. Schools with varsity teams include Stanford, Notre Dame, Columbia, Duke, Yale, Harvard, the US Air Force Academy and more.
Strategy
Often called “physical chess,” fencing develops strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Fencing teaches students to think their way through problems instead of just going stronger, faster, or harder.
Athleticism
Endurance, strength, agility, balance: elite fencers have all of these in abundance. Students can take the physical conditioning and skills of fencing to other sports while developing a high level of overall fitness. Combined with safety, fencing is a sport that can be practiced for life.
